We all love to find stories of the unusual & famous in our genealogy research but Jeff Mudgett seriously hit the infamous & creepy mother-load in his search for his roots. Jeff's 2x great grandfather was born in Gilmanton, NH as Herman Webster Mudgett. His name seems normal enough at first; a young man growing up in a small lakes region town. Things aren't always as they appear when we first set out to do research, and it becomes apparent Herman Mudgett has twisted into a new identity, H.H. Holmes. No doubt, best known for his numerous grizzly murders at the Chicago World's Fair and his Murder Castle build special for the affair. He was America's first known serial killer and numerous books including Devil in the White City have been written about him, but none as personal, enlightening and intriguing as Jeff's book Bloodstains based on the true story of his ancestral journey. Jeff takes the reader on a ride of discovery in a way that will surely have you turning page after page with fear and anticipation. Further, it begins to explore Jeff's not so far fetched theory that his ancestor was also none other than Jack The Ripper.
Check it out. It's pretty fascinating to say the least.
